Valve discontinues the cheapest 256GB LCD version of Steam Deck

by on23 December 2025

Pushing OLED versions during the holiday season

Valve has discontinued the 256GB LCD version of its Steam Deck handheld console, pulling it from its offer. The lineup still includes 512GB and 1TB OLED versions that will hopefully get some discounts during the holiday season.

The 256GB LCD version of the Steam Deck was the cheapest one in the lineup, priced at $399. This means that the cheapest Steam Deck now is the 512GB OLED version priced at $549. Of course, you get the better display with HDR, 90Hz refresh rate, and double the storage. There is still a possibility that the 256GB LCD version could be found in retail/e-tail shops, but it won't be available directly from Valve and the Steam Store.

"We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256 GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available", Valve said briefly on its Steam Store page.

The move makes sense as Valve is gearing up for the introduction of its new Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and the Steam Controller, simplifying the lineup. It will also be interesting to see how the NAND shortage will influence the price of the Steam Deck lineup and its upcoming new products.
