UK Prime Minister worried that AI will cause human extinction

Then who will we have to ship to Rwanda?

UK Prime Minister and son-in-law of Infosys boss N.R. Narayana Murthy, Rishi Sunak is suddenly worried that AI will make humans extinct.

Last week Murthy was calling for humans to work 72 hour weeks for the good of their country and Sunak's government thinks there are so many people living in the UK some of them need to be shipped off to Rwanda.

Nevertheless at this week's AI summit at Bletchley Park, Sunak said the UK would set up the "world's first AI safety institute," designed to test new forms of the technology.

This could spark off a fight with the US, which also wants to take the lead in AI and is doing its best to prevent China getting its paws on the sort of technology required to beat it.

US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told the summit that while countries must work together to find global solutions to global problems, "we will compete as nations."

The US and UK were quick to damp down any sense of tension, with a British official saying the US told Britain of its plans to open its own institute months ago, with the announcement planned to coincide with the event.
